Rain comes in off the coast and up the Coquille River most of the winter; then one week in spring it lets go, and the valley pastures turn a green that looks lit from underneath. That is when GreenCare Pruning and Landscape gets busy — blades turning, the smell of cut grass mixing with myrtlewood and river damp on the old mill streets. Pruning here is patient work, because a shrub shaped in the wet months carries that shape all the way into the long August evenings above the Coquille Valley. Alongside it comes the mowing, the edging, the hauled-off trimmings, for houses in town and places out toward Myrtle Point. The aim is simple and it never gets old: a clean line where the lawn meets the walk, and a yard that plainly has someone looking after it.
