Backyard Heroes

About Backyard Heroes

On a clear morning in Beavercreek the fields east of town lie open and green, and Mount Hood stands over them like something painted onto the sky. Backyard Heroes starts early, while the dew is still heavy enough to darken your boots, because a lawn cut before the day warms holds its line longer. The work is mowing, trimming, edging, and hauling off what the cut leaves behind. Out here a yard can be a wide apron of grass between the house and the pasture fence, and getting the edge crisp where lawn meets gravel is the part worth slowing down for. When the mower shuts off and the birds come back in, the whole place looks like somebody meant it.
