Two or three weeks a summer the marine layer forgets to come in, and the lowlands east toward Svensen and Knappa go bright and hot. Isidro's Lawn Service moves early on those days, mowing once the dew is off but before the heat sets, then trimming and edging while the river turns hard blue below the road. The rest of the year is greener and wetter and just as busy — grass on this stretch of the Columbia rarely takes a season off. What stays constant is the finish: an even cut, clean lines at the drive and the walk, clippings cleared away. The work covers Astoria, Svensen, Knappa and out toward Brownsmead.
