Old Route 66 still bends through Wellston, and the yards along it face the road the way porches used to face travelers. City Lawn and Landscape mows those frontages and the streets behind them, trimming close to steps and sign posts, edging where a walk has cracked and settled. Evening is the good hour — the light goes long and low, and a fresh-cut lawn holds the color of it all the way to dark. Cross Timbers oaks drop enough in fall to bury a small yard, so cleanups run right into the cold. The route through town is short, and the last lawn of the day gets the same finish as the first.
