Late afternoon turns Wagoner gold — the bermuda, the brick, the fresh mulch in a bed all going warm at once about an hour before the sun quits. Rays Landscaping does its best thinking in that light: beds reshaped and their borders cut in clean, mulch spread even, shrubs and plantings set where they will have room to become themselves. The lawn work runs alongside it, mowing and trimming and edging, because a planted bed only looks right against grass that has been held to a line. Spring is for putting things in the ground; autumn is for cutting back, clearing out and setting the yard down for the cold. A place that has been designed a little, rather than only maintained, shows it every time you pull into the drive.
