We Love Lawns

About We Love Lawns

Come late August, Skiatook evenings turn loud with cicadas and gold clear to the horizon, and the wind riding in off the lake coves west of town can take ten degrees out of a yard in a minute. We Love Lawns keeps mowers running through both the heat and the relief, cutting Bermuda at a height that holds its color, edging drives and sidewalks, trimming fence lines and mailbox posts where a deck cannot reach. The finish is what stays: light and dark stripes leaning across the front lawn, corners squared, the concrete blown bare. When fall drops the leaves off the cross timbers oaks, those get gathered before they mat down over the turf. It is steady work in a town that likes a yard to look like somebody has been by.
