Out past the last streetlight, the county roads around Pocola run between hay meadows, timber and lots that get away from their owners by midsummer. Vic's Out and About goes where that work is, knocking down overgrown grass, mowing acreage and vacant lots, cutting back what has crept into the property line, then holding it on a regular cut once it is under control. Some jobs are a yard; some are a field that used to be a yard. Fall means hauling off brush and leaves before winter hides all of it. There is a particular pleasure in the first pass through tall grass and the line it leaves behind.
