Late winter in Lindsay is a quiet season, the bermuda gone straw-colored, the wind out of the southwest, the Washita running clear and cold beneath the bridge. Tucker Construction Co uses those weeks for the work nobody notices in July: leaves banked against foundations hauled away, ragged edges recut along drives and sidewalks, the yard cleared of whatever the wind has put there since October. Then the ground warms, the mowing starts, and it carries on week after week through a Garvin County summer. There is a plain pleasure in the first cut of the year, in a yard going from unruly to squared off inside an hour. Lindsay and the towns around it get that same steady attention.
