Yard Worx And Materials

About Yard Worx And Materials

Guthrie summers ask you to start early, before the heat lifts out of the bottoms along Cottonwood Creek and the dew burns off the Bermuda. That is the hour Yard Worx And Materials likes best — deck singing, a little red dust drifting off the shoulder of a county road, the first yard striped and squared before nine o'clock. Grass runs wild here after a wet June and turns stubborn by August, so the work changes shape month to month: regular mowing, trimming along fence lines and mailboxes, hedges shaped back, beds cleared of whatever the prairie wind delivered. By November it is all leaves and one last cleanup before the country west of town goes tan and quiet. Out past the Cimarron there is nothing but pasture and sky; in town, a kept lawn is how a house says somebody is home.
