All Seasons

About All Seasons

In June the wheat south of Enid goes the color of a struck match and the combines run well past dark; by the Fourth the fields are stubble and the only green left in the county is the yards. All Seasons keeps those yards cut through Waukomis, Bison and the section roads below town, where a lawn is a small deliberate garden inside a very large field. The work follows the weather more than the calendar — mow ahead of the heat, trim to the fence, edge so the grass stops where the concrete starts. Wind is the one constant, so clippings go back into the turf rather than across the drive. The last pass at dusk is the good one, with the elevators turning pink above town and the lawn lying flat and even behind you.
