Comanche lies out in the rolling grass and mesquite of Stephens County, where the wind comes up off Waurika Lake in the afternoon and doesn't much care what you had planned. The Green Thumb works around it — mowing early while the air still holds, trimming the fence lines and the corners the wind fills with tumbled debris, edging the drive so the turf stops at the concrete instead of climbing it. Late summer here goes brassy and dry, and then September breaks it open and the grass gets one more green run before frost.
