Come the third week of October the pecans and post oaks around Bristow let go all at once, and a north wind stacks the whole business against the fence overnight. Wade's Lawn and Leaf is built for that hour of the year — leaves raked and cleared off the turf, out of the beds, off the drive, before they mat down and smother what's underneath. The final mowings of the season go on top of it, cutting the Bermuda down as it fades toward dormancy. Through spring and summer the same yards get regular cutting, edging and trimming, so the fall cleanup lands on ground already in good order. From town out to Depew and Kellyville, a yard finishes the year looking finished.
