The Grounds Co.

About The Grounds Co.

October comes into Bartlesville on a west wind off the Osage hills, and the blackjack oaks let go nearly all at once. The Grounds Co. spends those weeks doing what the season asks — the last cuts of the year taken low, leaves gathered off the turf and hauled away, beds and walks cleared before the first hard freeze locks it all down. A lawn put to bed properly in the fall comes back stronger in April; that is the plain arithmetic of the work. The rest of the year is mowing, edging and trimming on a steady weekly turn, the sort of upkeep nobody notices until it stops. What the name says is what it means — the grounds, all of them, kept.
