Outdoor Makeovers

About Outdoor Makeovers

The first real snow of the year finds the green at the center of Worthington and makes the whole town look like a postcard — then it finds every brick walk and driveway around it, where it is nobody's postcard at all. Outdoor Makeovers clears that second kind: plowing drives and lots, shoveling walks, and putting salt down where shade keeps ice all afternoon. The Olentangy runs cold and dark just west of town, and a north wind off it can turn slush to glaze by dusk. Working ahead of that turn is the whole craft — pavement opened early and treated before the freeze can take hold. Come morning the old streets are passable, the walks are safe underfoot, and the green gets to go on looking like a postcard.
