About we be

At two in the morning the roads out of Harrison belong to the plows and nobody else — streetlights, falling snow, a long empty run toward the river. we be works those hours in Whitewater Township, clearing driveways and lots while the storm is still going rather than waiting for it to finish. Blades push down to pavement, shovels finish the steps and the path to the door, and salt goes where the afternoon melt will only freeze again by five. Nothing about any of it is loud. By breakfast the drive is open, the car starts, and the night's weather has quietly become somebody else's problem.
