About Owens Land Services

A Wellington township driveway can run four hundred feet from the road to the porch, and every foot of it has to be mowed alongside in July and pushed clear in January. Owens Land Services takes on both halves of that bargain, with mowing, trimming and edging when the grass is running, and plowing, shoveling and salting once the section-line roads go white and the wind starts moving snow sideways across the stubble. Out here the ditch lines, the fencerows and the turnaround at the barn all count as part of the yard, and none of them get skipped. The best feeling of the winter is a long lane opened all the way to the mailbox before the school bus comes by. The best of the summer is the same lane, mowed tight to its shoulders, running green out to the road.
