About Hinman Tree Service, L.L.C.

The Vermilion River slips through Wakeman under a run of sycamores, and the streets that cross it keep their maples arched overhead. Hinman Tree Service, L.L.C. works from the riverbank yards out to the farms — trimming crowns back from village porch roofs, pruning young trees into shape along the township roads, removing what has hollowed out at the base. Along US 20 the wind gets a straight run at everything, and afterward the crew handles the storm damage: the limb hung over a mailbox, the top out of a hard maple, the drive that will not wait. Doing it well means no ruts in the lawn and no wood left behind, only the smell of fresh cut and a raked square of grass. In October, with the river valley turning color, the trees they have shaped are the ones still holding their leaves in the wind.
