South of the township toward Carroll, August can go hard and dry, and a bluegrass lawn will pull back and go dormant just to survive it. Turf is the whole subject for us, so we plan around that: mowing high through the heat, keeping the blade sharp so the cut heals, then aerating and overseeding once the September nights turn cool and the ground stays warm. Weekly mowing, edging along the drive and walk, trimming the corners and clearing the clippings fill in the rest of the calendar. Fertilizing and weed control go where the stand is thin rather than everywhere at once. Grass that is treated as a living thing looks like one, and that difference is visible from the street.
