Wind crosses Griggs Reservoir with nothing to slow it down, and in January it drives the snow sideways up the streets above Riverside Drive. A&M Landscaping works both ends of that year in Upper Arlington: plows and salt while the water is still black under the streetlights, then mowing, trimming and edging the same properties once the reservoir turns blue again in May. There is one kind of satisfaction in a driveway opened to bare pavement before anybody has found their car keys. There is another in a summer lawn cut on the diagonal, striped, holding its line all the way to the curb. The work changes completely between those two mornings; the care poured into it does not.
