Schrammscape

About Schrammscape

November light in Troy is short and gold, and it makes the last mow of the year look like the best one. Schrammscape spends that stretch on cleanups — leaves off the lawns, out of the bed edges, away from the walks that run past the old stone house on West Main and along every quieter street after it. The mowing carries on as long as the grass does, a notch lower each time, and the trimmer squares up the borders that summer softened. There is a specific satisfaction in a yard put to bed: no drifts against the fence, no smothered corner, the ground open to whatever winter decides to do. Then the town goes still, and the work waits for spring.
