Between Piqua and Covington the fields lie open all winter, and when a west wind gets up it carries the last storm back across the road and drops it into the first driveway it finds. Roughneck Landworks and Construction takes that on at first light, plowing drives and lots down to the surface and stacking the snow well clear of the entrance. Walks are cleared and the steps too, so the way in is as open as the way out. Some mornings it means coming back through a second time once the drifting has filled the cut again. The measure of a night like that is plain enough: everybody gets where they are going.
