About intimate spaces
Sparta is a small crossing of roads in the Morrow County hills, where the land rolls off toward the headwaters and the fields are cut through by wooded draws. intimate spaces works the yards here, mowing and trimming lawns that are often more nook than expanse — a side yard between the house and the hedge, a strip along the barn. Attention is the point: edges cut in by hand, corners taken cleanly, nothing left ragged where a mower could not fit. In the long light of a June evening a small yard finished well reads like a room with the door standing open. Sparta, Mount Gilead, Chesterville, Fredericktown and Cardington are all a short drive.
