South Point is the bottom of Ohio, a river town where the water makes its wide slow bend and the hills stand over both banks. Winter here arrives less as a season than as an event — a night of it, then ice, then the hillside drives nobody can get up. Leighty Contracting handles the snow: plowing driveways and lots, clearing walkways, and treating the ice that river fog leaves on the pavement. The satisfaction is entirely in the early hours, when a lot is opened and marked out before the first vehicle turns in.
