About Bernies Washing&Handyman

Winter arrives in Poland along Yellow Creek, where the water keeps moving under a skin of ice and the brick walks off Main Street go quiet and white. Bernies Washing&Handyman works the hours before that quiet breaks — plowing driveways, clearing the path from the door out to the street, spreading salt wherever a slope wants to hold a glaze. The village sits on ground that rolls, and a rolling driveway is a different problem at five in the morning than it is at noon. There is a real satisfaction in the last pass: a clean dark rectangle with the banks pushed back off the mailbox, waiting on headlights. Snow work here is measured one address at a time, in the dark, all the way to March.
