Drake's Lawn Service

About Drake's Lawn Service

August in the hollows of eastern Belmont County holds heat the way stone holds it — the day ends and the air stays warm well past supper. Drake's Lawn Service takes those late hours, mowing once the shadows have grown long across the bottom lots and the hillside yards have finally cooled. Trimmers clean out the fencerows, edges get cut back along the drives, and the clippings are blown off the concrete so nothing tracks inside. Grass in this part of Pease township comes in thick where the creek bottoms hold water and thin up on the shale, and each asks for a different pass. The reward is the walk back to the truck at dusk, looking at a lawn that finally sits flat and even in the last light.
