Solid Ground

About Solid Ground

Spring in Paulding County comes up wet — the Auglaize runs high, the field ditches brim, and anything soft stays soft until the wind finally gets at it. Solid Ground waits that out and then goes to work: first mowings on lawns that have been growing since March, edges cut back sharp where the grass has crept over the concrete. Summer settles into a weekly turn, and by the time the corn is off the fields the leaves and the last cleanup are close behind. Winter is plow work — drives and lots opened early, walks cleared to the step, ice knocked down with salt where the shade holds it all day. Steady footing under a boot is the whole idea, and the name says it plainly enough.
