The Yard Dad

About The Yard Dad

Every yard around here has a little history written into the grass: a thin patch under a swing, a path worn from the back steps to the garage, the strip along the fence where nothing ever wants to grow. The Yard Dad reads those and mows accordingly, keeping up the cutting, trimming, edging and cleanup that hold a yard together between the big weekends. Saturday mornings in September are worth getting up for, dew still on everything, the air cool enough for a jacket at eight and gone by ten, one lawn after another going from overgrown to even. Leaves follow, in the gold drifts an Ohio October makes of every maple on the street, and they come up before they mat down and smother the turf. What is left is a plain, usable, good-looking yard around Norwich township, which is all most people ever wanted.
