The hills south of Navarre hold their snow long after the valley floor has given it up, and one storm can leave three different problems inside a single mile. Forte Excavating takes them on with plow and spreader — pushing drives and lots, opening the tight turns and grades that make a hillside property hard to reach, and treating the glaze that follows a bright cold morning. Work starts in the dark most nights, while the Tuscarawas River runs black under the bridges. There is a plain sort of pride in the moment a car pulls out of a driveway without hesitating. Winters here are long enough that clearing done right is its own reward.
