Street Department

About Street Department

The hill up to Gambier is the sort of grade that separates a cleared road from a merely plowed one, and Knox County has no shortage of them. Street Department takes on snow work around Mount Vernon — plowing driveways and lots, opening walks and steps, and putting salt exactly where a slope will turn glassy at dusk. Storms here often arrive with the temperature hovering right at the line, which makes the difference between wet and treacherous a matter of an hour. Doing it right means coming back, checking the refreeze, and clearing again if it has earned another pass. A safe surface underfoot is a quiet sort of result, and it is the one worth chasing.
