About prescription turf care

Spring climbs the Knox County hills in stages — the pastures out toward Fredericktown first, then the yards in town, and last of all the north-facing slopes that hold onto winter an extra week. prescription turf care reads a lawn the way a farmer reads a field: what the soil is short of, where crabgrass has found a seam, which thin patch is compacted rather than hungry. The work is fertilization and weed control, aeration and overseeding, mowing and trimming, each of it timed to what the grass is actually doing rather than to a date on a wall. Late in the season, when the maples along the Gambier road let go all at once, a fall feeding quietly sets the roots up for the year ahead. By the following June the color runs even from curb to fence line, and the turf takes a footprint and stands right back up — which is the entire point of it.
