About Hamernik's Plowing & Salting

Three in the morning, a clipper crossing the flat fields west of town, and the snow does not fall so much as travel sideways. Hamernik's Plowing & Salting runs Maumee on nights like that, plowing driveways and lots, clearing walks, salting the drift lines that build wherever a fence or a hedge slows the wind. By the time headlights start moving on US-24 the pavement is open and dark and gritty underfoot. Nobody thanks a plow at that hour, and that is fine, because the thanks is a car backing out without a second thought. Then the truck swings around for the next one.
