Marion Mulch & More

About Marion Mulch & More

Two smells mark the calendar in Marion: fresh mulch in April and cold salt on concrete in January. Marion Mulch & More lives in both — hauling and spreading mulch until the beds read dark and even, mowing and tidying through the warm stretch, then swapping to plow and spreader when the storms come across the flat country. Downtown, where the theater marquee throws light onto Center Street, a bed edged in spring and a walk cleared in winter do the same job for a building: they make it look tended. The pleasure of mulch is the line where it stops, cut sharp against the grass. The pleasure of snow work is the drive you can walk across in ordinary shoes.
