The Liberty Rose Tree Company

About The Liberty Rose Tree Company

Out along Reformatory Road the old stone building stands against a February sky like a paper cutout, and the open fields around it give the wind nothing to catch on. The Liberty Rose Tree Company runs snow removal through those weeks — pushing driveways and lots open, clearing walks and steps, and treating the approaches where a north wind keeps rebuilding the drift you just moved. Squalls here can drop an inch in twenty minutes and then go blue-sky, so the work is less one heroic push than the willingness to come back. There is a plain pleasure in the last pass, when the blade finds pavement and the edges come out square. Mansfield winters run long; a cleared drive shortens one a little.
