Stony Brook has spent a few thousand years cutting the gorge at Penitentiary Glen, a fair reminder that in Kirtland the water and the weather do as they please and the rest of us keep up. Gornik's Landscaping LLC keeps up in both directions: mowing, trimming and edging through the long green months, cleanups when the ground needs clearing at either end of the year, then plows, shovels and ice melt once the calendar turns hard. Winters on this plateau are not shy — the wind comes over the rise and a drive can fill in twice between dusk and dawn. There is a rhythm to answering that, load after load pushed back to the same tidy bank, walks opened to full width so nobody has to sidestep. The same care shows up in August, when the last pass of the mower lays its stripe down straight and the yard finally exhales.
