About A1 Services

The pier at Huron runs far out into Lake Erie, and the light at the end of it measures the weather for the whole town. A1 Services works the yards behind it all summer — mowing, trimming, edging the walks, clearing whatever blows in off the water — and takes up the plow once the lake starts throwing snow inland. Erie County winters arrive sideways; a driveway can fill twice in one night, and clearing it twice is simply what the job asks. In July the same streets smell of cut grass and lake water together, which is a fair reason to like the work. Huron, Berlin Heights, Milan, Sandusky and Vermilion make up the working shoreline.
