The Sagamore Companies

About The Sagamore Companies

The first real snow of December usually comes over the hills northwest of Hudson in the afternoon, and by supper every driveway wears that soft, unbroken look — which lasts exactly until somebody has to leave. The Sagamore Companies exists for the hours after that: plowing drives and lots, opening walkways, salting the ice that follows a thaw. Winter here is never one storm but a long series of them, and the properties on the list have to be passable every single time. There is a plain pride in pavement showing before sunrise, in a lot that looks like nothing happened overnight. Through the dark months that is the whole of the assignment.
