Sullivan Gardens

About Sullivan Gardens

In April the Sandusky River runs high and loud through Fremont, and the walleye push up it in a silver crowd while the sycamores are still bare. Sullivan Gardens starts its season about then, with the first cleanups and the first cuts, the grass waking on the terraces above the water. Through the warm months the work is mowing, trimming, and the tidy finish along beds and fencelines that makes a yard look tended from the sidewalk. By July, when the old oaks at Spiegel Grove throw their heavy shade, the lawns nearby are on a steady schedule and holding their color. It is ordinary work done attentively, in a town where the river sets the calendar.
