January nights come at Franklin off the open rises toward Springboro, and by morning the drives on the hill side of town have weather all their own. Olympic Lawns handles the snow, plowing, shoveling walks and cutting the ice back so a car can leave and a mail carrier can climb the steps. There is a particular stillness to a lot finished at five in the morning, everything black and wet and clear under the lights. Freeze-and-thaw is the local trick here, since whatever melts at noon is glass by dusk, so the second visit is often the one that counts.
