The Roller Man

About The Roller Man

March in Eaton is all thaw and heave: ground softening, tire ruts filling with brown water, lawns waking up rumpled from a winter of freezing and refreezing. The Roller Man meets that season head-on, smoothing and rolling turf back down before the first mow so the summer's cutting runs level instead of scalping every high spot. From there the year settles into mowing, trimming and edging, with cleanups that pull the winter's litter out of the beds. When the cold circles back and freezing rain glazes Preble County, the work turns to plowing driveways and salting walks until the footing is honest again. Getting a lawn flat and a drive clear are two versions of the same instinct, which is to leave a place better than you found it.
