"Jewell's Lawn Care"

About "Jewell's Lawn Care"

Fog settles low over the bottomland out toward Jewell on an August morning, and the gravel roads through Defiance township go quiet enough to hear a deck engage two farms away. Jewell's Lawn Care works that country — mowing acreage and house yards, trimming around posts, mailboxes and fence lines, edging where lawn meets drive, and clearing the leaf fall when the season tips. Out here a mowed yard sets a house apart from the field behind it, a clean rectangle of green with the corn coming right up to the line. The reward is the look back from the road at the end of a cut, when the stripes have settled and the edges hold. Township work, done at township pace, which is to say done right.
