Spring in the Miami Valley starts at the river's edge — the Stillwater running full, the floodplain greening weeks before anybody's lawn wakes all the way — and then it arrives everywhere at once. Miami Valley Garden meets it with spring cleanups, bed edges recut, mulch laid down, and the first mowing of the year, which is always the cut that changes how a place looks. Through summer the routine holds: mow, trim, edge, blow, move on, with the height raised when July turns dry. Perennial beds get weeded and cut back, and shrubs get shaped so the front of the house can be seen from the street again. By the time the leaves are cleared in November, the whole yard has been through a full year of steady hands.
