Spartan Blade and Plow

About Spartan Blade and Plow

There is an hour in a Conneaut storm — usually somewhere around four in the morning — when the wind lies down, the snow falls straight, and every driveway in town is a blank page. Spartan Blade and Plow is out in it, cutting drives open, pushing back the ridge the road plow left across the apron, clearing walks and steps, and salting so what melts at noon does not turn to glass at dusk. Off the lake the totals stack fast, and one pass rarely settles anything; there is a return trip, and then another. Nobody watches the work, only the result, which is a car that backs out without a fight. That is a fine thing to leave behind on a January morning.
