Winter strips a township back to its bones: bare woodlots, fence lines drawn in charcoal, the creek running black between white banks. Tree Fell-ows & Stumps takes on the snow side of that season around Norwich township, plowing drives and lots, clearing walks and steps by hand, and laying salt where shade never lets the ice let go. Storms tend to arrive on the back of a gray afternoon and keep on through the night, so the shift starts late and ends in the dark, hours before the first kitchen light comes on. There is a particular quiet to a finished drive at five in the morning, the banks cut back straight, the pavement showing through, everything beyond it still buried. Then it is on to the next one, until the township wakes up able to go wherever it needs to go.
