Prairie Snow & Ice Management

About Prairie Snow & Ice Management

At three in the morning a Crawford County road can vanish under a drift while the pavement fifty feet on either side lies bare — that is what wind does with flat farmland and a night of snow. Prairie Snow & Ice Management runs its hours against exactly that, plowing driveways, lots and lanes around Bucyrus, hand-clearing walks and entryways where a blade cannot reach, and salting the spots that turn glassy after a thaw. The measure of a night is simple: whether the first person out the door at six can leave without thinking about it. Headlights, a scraped path, salt going down ahead of the refreeze. Much of the work in a winter town is the kind nobody ever sees happen.
