About Unearthed

There is a week in March when the frost finally lets go, the ruts soften, and the yards come out of winter looking flattened and gray. Unearthed likes that week — the first pass of the year across a lawn nobody has touched since November, the mower lifting the mat, the color coming back a day or two later like somebody turned a light on. From there it runs into cleanups, then the regular cutting, then the trimming and edging that give a yard its shape again. By the time the road ditches are green, the places on the route look awake. Every season begins right there, on soft ground, with a lot of winter to sweep off.
