AJ’s List

About AJ’s List

Morning on the Ohio at Bridgeport arrives as fog first, sitting on the water under the bridges until the sun climbs over the West Virginia bank and burns it off in strips. AJ's List mows the yards stacked on the slope above that river, the narrow ones behind brick houses and the wider lots where the hill finally levels out. Ground like this asks for a lighter hand — passes taken across the pitch, trimming worked down the retaining wall and around the porch piers, then a walk blown clear from the steps to the street. By midsummer the grass runs hard in the river humidity and the mowing comes close together, which is when a tidy yard really stands out along the block. Autumn turns the whole valley color, and then all of it lands on the lawn and gets carried away.
