Houk Lawn Services

About Houk Lawn Services

Late on a summer evening around Bloomingdale the light comes in sideways across the benches of pasture, and cut grass smells like the hayfields on the far side of the fence. Houk Lawn Services mows the yards on those little flats and shelves of ground, the ones stitched between woodlots and old orchard rows where a mower has to know where the ledge is. Every pass is walked out first if it needs to be, trimmed close around the well head and the clothesline post, then blown off so the porch steps come up clean. Grass here browns in a dry August and jumps again with the first real rain of September, and the schedule follows that rhythm rather than a calendar. What stays with people is the simple look of a hillside yard finished right at dusk, even and quiet, with the tree line going blue behind it.
