About Ellington Lawn Kare

Three in the morning on the flat river-bottom streets west of Route 4, and the only sound in Fairfield is a blade finding the seam of a driveway. Ellington Lawn Kare works that hour all winter, plowing, shoveling walkways and putting down salt so the ice cannot set up behind the truck. Come July it is the opposite shift entirely: mowing in heat, trimming, edging, a whole yard brought back to order in forty minutes. The town looks like two different places in those two hours, and both of them need somebody awake. That is the job, and it gets done either way.
