On summer mornings the lake pushes a low fog inland past the interstate, and Austinburg's lawns come up wet and silver until the sun burns it off around nine. R.D.I.A starts the route after that, when the grass will cut instead of tear — mowing in even passes, edging the walk and the driveway apron, trimming where the mower has to give up. Beds get mulched, spring brings the long haul of clearing what winter left behind, and autumn brings leaves down over everything twice a week. Grass in this corner of Ohio grows in bursts and then sulks, so the schedule bends to the weather rather than the calendar. A yard kept that way stays even all season, which is the whole point.
