October moves through Ashland from the south, the Mohican hills going copper first, then the maples on the streets around Brookside Park letting go all at once. Graffice Lawncare meets that with leaf work — mowing while there is still grass worth mowing, then hauling and clearing until the lawn underneath comes back into view. It has a smell to it, wet leaves and cold air and two-stroke, that tells you the year has turned. The last cleanup of the season is the one that decides how a yard wakes up in March. So it gets finished all the way: borders raked out, corners emptied, turf left breathing under the first hard frost.
